Weather temperatures in La Fortuna
The weather can be unpredictable around the Arenal Volcano, however if you keep your itinerary flexible to adjust accordingly, you will have a great time.
The hottest months in La Fortuna are February, March, and April. Late March can peak at average high temperatures of 88˚F (31.1˚C) and lows in the mid-60s (around 18˚C). Dryer days tend to occur in January, February, and March, with the lowest chance of rain in mid-January.
The rainy season in La Fortuna runs from late April/ May till November/ early December. However it can rain any time of the year. Also, at times during the rainy season, you can get bright sunny mornings before it starts pouring in the afternoon.
Humidity in La Fortuna
La Fortuna boasts a tropical climate, so it is always humid! However, some months are less humid than others. The lowest humidity typically occurs in February, averaging around 49.8% relative humidity.
The highest humidity happens in October, with 81.5% relative humidity. Keep that in mind when choosing your travel months. Some people manage more or less humidity levels
Rainy days vs. sunny days
You may expect both during your visit, but there are activities that are perfect for each weather scenario.
If you like to go on guided or self-guided hikes of any of the incredible parks that surround the Arenal Volcano or you fancy a wildlife observation tour during the day or at night, we recommend to schedule these experiences on a sunny day. The best time for hikes are always early in the morning when the local wildlife is the most active.
On rainy days schedule your adrenaline and outdoor adventures. You will get wet anyways. No matter if you rappel down a waterfall wall or raft the waves of the Balsa River another drop from the sky won’t make the difference. You can even enjoy one of the many Hot Springs or a soothing spa day when the clouds won’t dry up.
The truth is that you will not be able to predic the weather in La Fortuna. Such is nature, however, we can guarantee you will have an amazing time if you keep your mind and itinerary flexible to adjust accordingly and plan your packing list well to be well-prepared for any weather conditions that will arise.
